Nick Abate, at 132 pounds, began amateur boxing in 1925, and turned professional in 1929 and boxed until 1940.. As an amateur Nick won the flyweight and bantamweight title. He fought such men as Jimmy Batchelor, Nat Arno, Lou Halper, Young Zazzerino, Benny Levine and many others. Nick has been through more than 100 battles. Nick was married to the late Frances Abate, they had two children, Nick Junior and Joanna. Nick is the proud grandfather of Mark, Michelle and Danielle.
