JOE CARLO (BOTTONE)

Joe Carlo PictureCarlos came to America at the age of two. His family settled in New Jersey. He resided in Newark his whole life.

After getting out of the Army in 1920, he began boxing, first for the money and then to build a career. He loved to box and used to tell stories about it. After about 80 professional fights, his record showed only 5 or 6 losses. His greatest fight was against Pete Latzo in 1927 when Latzo was Champion. Bottone lost in a 12-round decision.

After boxing, he worked for the Newark School System. He was loved by all that knew him and will be missed. He passed away in June 1992.
