Al Capone PictureAl Capone was born in Paterson on May 21, 1912. He started training as a boxer at the age of 14 under the close guidance of Paul and Fred Cavaliere. He had a very successful amateur career where he won several New Jersey State titles. After winning his final amateur title in 1930, Al turned pro where he fought and beat so,me of the top fighters of his day such as Eddie Marks, Lou Ordoni, Thys Menger, Babe Lancaster and Johnny Shutte. He also held his own with Carl Duva and Irish Billy Buck Boyle.

All told Al had over 40 pro fights and coming on top 95% of the time and had a knockout record that anyone would be proud of.

His boxing career came to an end in the mid-30’s and he opened up the Atlas gym where all the top fighters came to train among them Paul Cavaliere, Al Diamond, Jackie Shupack, Johnny Zawacki, Frankie Bauman, Midget Wolgast, Tommy Stapleton and Ad Stone.

Al also trained his younger brother Sam to 3 Diamond Glove titles and a Golden Glove crown. Later in life Al organized the Union in Wrights Aero and became its first President where he presided over 40,000 members..

Al now lives in Hawthorne with his lovely wife Erma.
